吾輩は食後の散歩をしておる。新しく出会った町を探索中である。
十分ほど主人の背中から町の様子を観察しておるところであるが、異国の地まで移動したワケではなさそうだ。見覚えのある建物はまだ見当たらないが、人々の様子や話し言葉からしてそう遠くまでは来ておらぬであろう。まずは一安心だ。
町の景色が後ろから前へと流れてゆく。住宅街を抜けたのであろう、飲食店やスーパーが増えて人の数が多くなってきた。
またしばらく観察を続けていると踏み切りの音が聞こえてきた。駅が近いようであるな、電車か駅名が見えれば現在地を探るヒントになるのであろうが、主人のリュックに潜り込んで背中合わせに向いているので今のところ音しか聞こえない。
電車が通り過ぎて踏切が開く。踏切を渡るついでに駅のホームが見えたので駅名を確認しようかと思ったがまだ遠い、しかしながらちょっと見覚えのあるような気がするホームだ。意外と近いぞこれは。
主人が進行方向を変えた。駅の改札へと向かっているのであろう、ここで何処から沸いて来たのかは分からぬが一気の人の数が増えてきだした。学生が多い町のようであるな、それっぽい服装の若人に甘い香りが流れるお菓子屋さんと喫茶店だらけになった。
いよいよ改札へ向かうかと思いきや。主よ何をおもったのか駅前を通り過ぎてしまう。
しかし、ここで駅の看板を確認することが出来た。『園原駅』とある。なるほど、吾輩の自宅の最寄り駅から二駅の近所であった、まあそんなものであろうな。
さてさて、主よ一体全体何処へ向かうつもりであろうか。しばらくジッとしていると、とある喫茶店の前で立ち止まった。
「お前はカリカリを食べてご満悦だろうけど僕は朝からまだ何も食べていないんだ。今度は僕がご飯を食べさせてもらうよ」
そう呟くと、リュックを下げてから吾輩を抱き上げ、地面へと降ろしてくれた。
「猫のお前には分からないだろうけど、この店でブリテンサンドを食い散らかしながらスマホをイジるのが最近のトレンドなのさ」
ふむ、新興宗教の儀式か何かかのう、犬や猿でも分からぬと思うが。ついでに言えばズボンのチャックが全開になっておるようじゃがコレも儀式の一環であろうか。
「さ、ココはペット入店禁止なんだ。アッチの公園で散歩でもしておいで、あとで迎えに行ってやるから」
チャックが開いているのを教える暇もなく追い払われてしまった。主は再びリュックを抱えると踵を返し、店の中へと入ってゆく。
うむ仕方がない。言われたとおりちょっと散歩でもすることにいたそう。
